NCC Skills work with colleges, consortia and private training companies across England to provide high quality basic skills training within existing vocational awards. Through the English & Maths for the Employed programme they are able to work with employers to offer them fully funded English & Maths Qualifications.
Howard Court Care Home have recently accessed this funding for their employees. Michael Dresser has worked at the care home for over 20 years, when asked about the benefits of the training he stated; “Training has given staff increased confidence and improved skills. Some have advanced into senior positions as a result. Staff are now enthusiastic to improve in all areas with ongoing training.”
Improved job performance
The programme has also had a massive impact on the participants, Alison explains the difference the training has made to her job role: “Before I started on this course I had no confidence in my reading, writing or any aspects in English abilities what so ever. I now write documents well and my job performance has improved along with my confidence.”
Because of Alison's improved confidence she is now willing to progress onto a higher qualification, “I am now studying for my English Level 2 and I have now become the dementia champion within the care home...I would like to be able to train other staff. Without the help of my tutor Maxine I don’t think I would of come so far so fast.”
